Abstract

Crystals suitable for the single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis oxcarbazepine (OxCBZ) solvate with chloroform are grown for the first time. A procedure is proposed to reproducibly obtain this solvate. The crystal structure solution enables the determination of the main types of intermolecular interactions stabilizing the molecular packing. The powder XRD analysis shows that during desolvation new unstable phases form, which are prone to transformation to thermodynamically stable I polymorph OxCBZ.
