An Unconventional Yeast for Exceptional Products: Generation of High-Value Compounds with Cutaneotrichosporon oleaginosus

NSNikolaus Isidor Stellner

Key Points

  • This research aims to investigate the capabilities of Cutaneotrichosporon oleaginosus in producing high-value compounds alongside single-cell oil.
  • Explored the SCO production capabilities of Cutaneotrichosporon oleaginosus
  • Investigated the co-production of value-added compounds
  • Analyzed the potential of using C. oleaginosus in biorefineries
  • Cutaneotrichosporon oleaginosus demonstrated high yields of single-cell oil
  • Significant potential identified for co-production of valuable compounds
  • Supports the idea of C. oleaginosus as a viable microbial cell factory

Abstract

Single-cell oil (SCO) from oleaginous yeasts is an emerging sustainable alternative to mineral and vegetable oils. In particular, the unconventional yeast Cutaneotrichosporon oleaginosus has drawn attention for its high SCO yields. High-value compounds can be co-produced in biorefineries alongside the SCO. This work aims at further exploring the potential of C. oleaginosus as a microbial cell factory for such value-added co-products.
