Abstract Background and aims Our unit has involved in Stroke trials since its inspection of Hyper Acute Stroke Unit in 2010 there by providing our patients additional treatment and updated evidence-based care. However, District General Hospitals find it difficult to strike the balance between clinical load and conducting research with less staffing. Methods Retrospective analysis of our data base between 2010-2025 to evaluate research trials and was assessed under eight indicators: number of studies opened, method of the study, area of research, total recruits, number of consultants involved, number of full-time research nurses, number of commercial and non-commercial studies, and top recruited studies and original targets. Results We opened 37 studies over last 15 years. There was a reduction in post pandemic period, but the momentum had picked up again. We had always focused on Interventional trials with 27 Interventional and 10 Observational trials. 39% of our studies was based on Cerebral Infracts, 24% on Intra cerebral haemorrhages, 25% covered both types and 12% was from Multidisciplinary team. A total number of 1216 patients were recruited over last 15 years. The number of staffs supporting Research was between 3-6 consultants and 1-2 nurses. We over recruited in majority of the studies with some studies more than 8-10 times. Conclusions In our hospital we have carried out research successfully despite having few consultants and research nurse equivalent compared to university hospitals. This is due to having the right ethos, attitude, motivation, flexibility, communication, teamwork and good organisational skills.
