View Full Paper
AJAtkinson, Thomas Vincent, Jr.

Key Points

  • This research aims to study the pK values of deoxynucleic acid components under varying temperatures.
  • Examined pK's of -N1H- groups for several deoxynucleic acid components at different temperatures.
  • Analyzed thymidine, thymidylic acid, deoxyguanosine, and deoxyguanylic acid (5') in the investigation.
  • Calculated △Ĥ's for the ionizations from the obtained pK values.
  • Identified temperature-dependent changes in the pK values for the studied components.
  • Determined ionization enthalpies (△Ĥ's) related to temperature variations.

Abstract

The pK's of the -N1H- groups for the several deoxynucleic acid components have been studied as a function of temperature. From this the △Ĥ's for the ionizations are obtained. The components studied were thymidine, thymidylic acid, deoxyguanosine, and deoxyguanylic acid (5').
