Abstract

Abstract With the integration of wind turbines represented by doubly-fed induction generators (DFIG) into the power system, the inertia level of the system decreases sharply, and small disturbances can easily cause low-frequency oscillation (LFO) in the system. In this paper, we propose a multi-band supplementary damping controller (MBSDC) directly applied to the active power control link of the rotor-side converter in the wind power generation system. We establish a linearized model for DFIG integrated with the power system, calculate eigenvalues, and screen out multiple electromechanical oscillation modes to be suppressed. Based on the calculation results, an MBSDC is designed to suppress LFO, and we propose a parameter-setting algorithm to enhance the suppression effect. Taking the New England 10-generator 39-bus system containing DFIG as an example for simulation verification, the results show that the MBSDC and parameter setting algorithm designed in this paper can effectively suppress LFO.
