Abstract

Urban youth in Nigeria face significant challenges accessing quality education, with dropout rates remaining high despite increasing use of online platforms for learning. The study employed a comparative analysis of data collected from three prominent online education platforms operating in urban Nigeria. A total of 500 participants were surveyed, with demographic information and self-reported dropout data analysed. A notable theme emerged regarding the role of interactive features such as video tutorials and live sessions in engagement levels among youth. Specifically, those using platforms with more interactive elements had a dropout rate lower by 15% compared to those without these features. Online education platforms can be effective tools for reducing dropout rates among urban youth when they incorporate interactive learning components. Educational institutions should integrate more interactive and engaging features into online courses to improve student retention.
