Abstract

Background: Organ-on-chip technologies have emerged as advanced microphysiological platforms capable of overcoming the limitations of traditional in vitro and animal models in biomedical research. In andrology, these technologies offer promising tools for modeling spermatogenesis, testicular function, reproductive toxicology, and male infertility under physiologically relevant conditions. However, the rapid and interdisciplinary growth of this field has resulted in a fragmented body of literature that has not yet been systematically mapped. Objective: This study aimed to provide a comprehensive bibliometric and science-mapping analysis of global research trends, key contributors, and collaboration patterns in organ-on-chip technologies applied to andrology. Materials and Methods: A systematic search of the PubMed database was conducted to retrieve publications related to organ-on-chip and male reproductive research published between 2000 and 2026. Bibliometric indicators, including annual scientific production, source productivity, author impact, and country and institutional contributions, were analyzed using the Bibliometrix package in R through the Biblioshiny interface. Science-mapping techniques were applied to evaluate collaboration networks and structural characteristics of the field. Results: The analysis revealed a marked increase in publication output after 2015, indicating rapid field expansion and technological maturation. A limited number of journals formed the Bradford core, primarily in microfluidics, biomedical engineering, and reproductive biology. Author productivity was concentrated among a small group of researchers with strong collaborative involvement. The United States, China, and Iran emerged as leading contributors, with international collaboration structured around a hub-and-spoke network centered on a few dominant countries and institutions. Conclusions: Organ-on-chip technologies in andrology represent a rapidly evolving and globally collaborative research domain. This bibliometric overview highlights key growth phases, knowledge hubs, and collaboration patterns, providing a structured foundation to guide future research, funding strategies, and translational development in male reproductive health.
