Abstract

Biological Control of Fusarium Wilt of Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) Using Trichoderma spp.: A Review examines sustainable approaches for managing Fusarium wilt, a serious soil-borne disease that significantly reduces brinjal yield and quality. Caused mainly by Fusarium oxysporum, the disease leads to wilting, yellowing, vascular discoloration, and plant death. This review emphasizes the potential of Trichoderma species as an effective biological control agent due to their antagonistic mechanisms such as mycoparasitism, antibiosis, nutrient competition, and induction of plant defense responses. Trichoderma spp. not only suppress pathogen growth but also enhance plant vigor by improving root development and nutrient availability. The review discusses different application methods, including seed treatment and soil inoculation, along with their role in integrated disease management strategies. By reducing dependence on chemical fungicides, Trichoderma offers an eco-friendly, cost-effective, and sustainable solution for controlling Fusarium wilt while promoting healthier brinjal cultivation and long-term agricultural productivity.
