Abstract

सुरेंद्र वर्मा ने अपने उपन्यासों में उपभोक्ता समाज की विसंगतियों, विशेषकर आधुनिक शहरी जीवन में टूटते मानवीय रिश्तों, अकेलेपन और पहचान के संकट को, समसामयिक जीवन की कतिपय समस्याओं, विसंगतियों के संघर्ष में टूटते-बिखरते मनुष्य के मानसिक विघटन, टूटन, पारिवारिक और सामाजिक तनावों से टूटते व्यक्ति और उनकी विभाजित तथा कुंठित मानसिक स्थिति का सूक्ष्म अंकन किया है। उनका उपन्यास साहित्य व्यक्ति के आंतरिक तनावों और सामाजिक दबावों के बीच खोखले होते रिश्तों और उपभोक्तावादी मूल्यों के प्रभावों का मार्मिक चित्रण करता है। उपभोक्तावादी समाज में व्यक्ति अति महत्वाकांक्षा से प्रेरित होकर अपनी व्यक्तिगत सुख की खोज में विफल मन:स्थिति में अधूरापन और अलगाव महसूस करता है। इस दृष्टि से उनका ‘दो मुर्दों के लिए गुलदस्ता’ उपन्यास उपभोक्ता समाज की यथार्थ तस्वीर प्रस्तुत करता है। इस उपन्यास के प्रमुख पात्र नील और भोला अपने व्यक्तिगत सुख की खोज में ऐसे रास्ते अपनाते हैं, जिसमें नील मरकर भी ज़िंदा लाश बन जाता है और भोला गुनाहों की दुनिया में डूबकर ज़िंदा होकर भी मुर्दा बन जाता है। उपभोक्तावाद के जाल में फँसकर दोनों के लिए यह रास्ता मौत का गुलदस्ता साबित होता है।
