This article examines the complex challenges and strategic approaches to legacy system modernization in enterprise IT environments. Through a structured analysis of empirical research across multiple sectors, including financial services, contract management, and healthcare, the article presents a comprehensive framework for successful modernization initiatives. The article explores four critical dimensions: assessment and risk analysis methodologies, architectural transformation strategies from monolithic to microservices designs, data migration and integration approaches ensuring business continuity, and organizational change management techniques addressing human factors in technological transitions. By synthesizing findings from ten contemporary studies, this work offers evidence-based guidance for IT leaders navigating the delicate balance between preserving business continuity and implementing innovative technologies. The article demonstrates that successful modernization requires not only technical expertise but also organizational alignment, structured risk management, and systematic change strategies to transform legacy constraints into opportunities for meaningful digital transformation.
