Reading comprehension in English requires specific didactic strategies that strengthen learning and comprehensively enhance students' communication skills. This systematic review examines evidence-based teaching strategies to strengthen reading comprehension in English, analyzing their effectiveness in different educational contexts. The study used the PRISMA methodology to identify and analyze information from studies published between 2018 and 2025. The main findings reveal that successful approaches integrate metacognitive and cognitive strategies and active methodologies. Technology-enhanced strategies proved particularly promising when implemented correctly, although accessibility remains a concern in resource-limited settings. The analysis demonstrates that combining these strategies, tailored to the proficiency levels and needs of language learners, produces the most significant improvements in reading comprehension outcome. To conclude, the results of this systematic review provide educators with a research-based framework for designing more effective reading instruction in English language teaching.
