The role of AI in climate action: Can it be the remedy we need?

Artificial intelligence and climate change are the two biggest topics on the global agenda. While artificial intelligence shapes our lives with technological innovations, climate change threatens our environment and health. While humanity is struggling with the threat of climate change, it is trying to find new and innovative solutions to overcome this existential crisis. In this process, many tools are used to combat climate change. However, none of these tools is as promising as artificial intelligence (AI). With its capacity to analyze large amounts of data and its extraordinary ability to identify patterns and make predictions, artificial intelligence is today a vital tool in the fight against climate change. From predicting weather events to optimizing renewable energy systems, from protecting forests to maintaining biodiversity, AI is revolutionizing the approach to environmental sustainability. With the help of this technology, more effective strategies can be developed to reduce carbon footprint and minimize environmental impacts. In addition, AI-supported solutions can produce innovative solutions that will benefit both humans and nature by enabling faster and more efficient decisions in the fight against climate crisis. From this point of view, in this study, the use of artificial intelligence can be an effective tool in combating climate change and the areas in which artificial intelligence is used in combating climate change are discussed and examples of good practices are analyzed.
