Abstract

The purpose of this study is to test the water stability of foam asphalt mixture under various immersion conditions. For this purpose, experiments were conducted on warm mixed foamed asphalt and traditional hot mixed asphalt. To evaluate its water stability, Marshall tests, immersion Marshall tests, vacuum saturation Marshall tests, and freeze-thaw splitting tests were conducted. Based on surface energy theory, the water damage mechanism of asphalt mixtures was analyzed. The research results indicate that due to the adverse effects of water erosion and pressure, the water stability of the two mixtures gradually decreases. Although the failure load value of warm mixed foamed asphalt mixture is slightly lower than that of hot mixed asphalt mixture, its water stability parameters still meet the specified requirements. Therefore, warm mix foam asphalt mixture shows satisfactory water stability under different soaking conditions.
