Key Points

  • This research compares different formulas for estimating low-density lipoprotein cholesterol against a direct assay reference.
  • Analyzed S-LDL-c, M-LDL-c, and ME-LDL-c against D-LDL-c calculations.
  • Conducted LRP analysis to assess accuracy in hypertriglyceridemia cases.
  • Evaluated clinical implications of adopting newer LDL equations.
  • S-LDL-c and M-LDL-c showed better alignment with D-LDL-c compared to F-LDL-c.
  • S-LDL-c provided the most accurate estimations, particularly in patients with high triglycerides.
  • Findings support replacing traditional formulas with newer alternatives in clinical practice.

Abstract

S-LDL-c, M-LDL-c, and ME-LDL-c showed better agreement with D-LDL-c than F-LDL-c in this South American population. LRP analysis suggests S-LDL-c may provide most accurate estimation vs gold standard BQ, particularly in hypertriglyceridemia. These findings support the adoption of newer equations in clinical practice.
