Humans are polluting the environment, and as a result, not just the air and water, but even the land, are being contaminated. Oil, chemicals, heavy metals, and organic contaminants were all found in the soil. These contaminants have a significant impact on soil behavior as well as geotechnical qualities. Contamination in soil leads to a loss of strength, differential settlement, and cracks in existing foundations and structures. It is relevant to understand the changes in geotechnical qualities owing to such contaminations when considering the structural safety of constructions in such a place. In this study the changes in geotechnical parameters such as Atterberg’s limits, specific gravity, free swelling index, swelling pressure, and swelling pressure of expansive soil have been evaluated due to the contamination diesel engine oil (DEO).
