Abstract

This report documents the Value-Based Health Care (VBHC) symposium held on 23 September 2025 at the Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois (CHUV), bringing together experts, clinicians, patient partners and decision-makers to discuss the implementation of VBHC in the Swiss healthcare context. The symposium focused on the creation of value for patients, defined as the relationship between patient-relevant health outcomes and the total cost of care across the full care pathway. Key discussions addressed the importance of quality monitoring through shared indicators, patient involvement via Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), and the adaptation of organizational and financial models. The report highlights key success factors for VBHC implementation, including strong institutional leadership, professional training, appropriate digital tools, and clear governance at institutional, regional and national levels. It also outlines concrete directions to support the transition towards value-based healthcare in Switzerland.
