Abstract

ABSTRACT Rapid heat cycle molding (RHCM) improved the surface qualities of the products while increasing the energy consumption during production, particularly for crystalline polymers. The increased energy consumption not only increased the production cost, but may cause energy waste. In this study, the relationship between energy and parts surface qualities was investigated. The results indicated that an increase in mold temperature from 61°C to 95°C resulted in a 9.6% rise in the proportion of energy consumption attributed to mold temperature. Moreover, this temperature elevation led to a notable 24.2% increase in parts surface gloss. Furthermore, through a comprehensive analysis of various process parameters, we found a positive correlation between surface qualities and energy consumption. Based on these findings, we developed an equation that illustrates the relationship between surface qualities and energy consumption. This study provided a reference for selecting suitable production methods and process parameters when the surface quality requirements were certain.
