In recent years, intranasal drug delivery has emerged as a promising route of administration due to its rapid onset of action, high bioavailability, and non-invasive nature. The large surface area and rich vascularization of the nasal mucosa enable efficient and rapid absorption of therapeutic agents. This route serves as a viable alternative to conventional oral and parenteral drug delivery by allowing drugs to enter systemic circulation directly, thereby avoiding first-pass metabolism. The ease of administration and patient compliance further enhance its clinical significance. Consequently, nasal drug delivery has gained increasing attention in pharmaceutical research for both acute and chronic treatment strategies. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of nasal drug absorption, associated advantages and limitations, nasal anatomy, absorption mechanisms, and recent advancements in nasal drug delivery systems.
