Abstract

The article examines the influence of postmodernism as one of the factors shaping contemporary left-wing discourse in the United States of America, drawing on the dynamics of search queries and statistical data from mass media. The subject of the study comprises the dynamics of search queries in the United States related to topics of contemporary left-wing discourse from January 1, 2010, to January 1, 2025, as well as postmodernist ideas that have indirectly influenced the formation of the modern left-wing agenda. The aim of the study is to identify the theoretical foundations of contemporary left-wing discourse in the United States through the lens of postmodernist philosophy and to determine the significance and development potential of the left-wing phenomenon and its influence on the communicative practices of mass media. The research employs methods such as quantitative analysis of search query dynamics, as well as theoretical, substantive, and comparative analyses of the works of postmodernist thinkers — both the founders of the philosophical movement and actors whose activities directly engage with issues of social justice, communication, and mass media. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the identification of key terms related to the contemporary left-wing agenda and the analysis of search activity for these terms in the United States. The novelty is further emphasized by the presentation and examination of postmodernist ideas that have indirectly contributed to the formation of left-wing discourse. The study analyzes the dynamics of search queries for terms in the United States that correlate with the contemporary left-wing agenda using Google Trends, alongside sociological data and mass media statistics. The research demonstrates how postmodernist ideas, having undergone transformation, have influenced the socio-political landscape of the United States. Within the highly competitive media market, the resulting left-wing discourse, in turn, encourages leading media outlets to more frequently disseminate left-oriented themes.
