Formulation and Evaluation of Novel Lipid-Based Nanocarriers for Targeted Ocular Delivery of Anti-Inflammatory Agents

This study focuses on creating and assessing new lipid-based nanocarriers designed for the targeted delivery of anti-inflammatory drugs to treat eye diseases. Ocular conditions like uveitis, conjunctivitis, and dry eye disease often require effective anti-inflammatory treatments, but traditional methods face challenges such as low drug availability and barriers in the eye that make it hard for medications to work. Lipid-based nanocarriers, including liposomes, solid lipid nanoparticles, and nanostructured lipid carriers, offer promising solutions to these issues by improving drug absorption and providing a controlled release of the medication. In this study, we carefully selected various lipid materials and employed advanced techniques for preparing these nanocarriers. We then characterized them based on their size, shape, surface charge, and how well they encapsulate drugs. To ensure safety, we conducted biocompatibility and toxicity tests, followed by in vitro and ex vivo studies to evaluate how well the drugs penetrate ocular tissues and stay in place. Finally, we performed in vivo animal studies to understand how the drugs behave in the eye and their effectiveness in reducing inflammation. Our findings suggest that lipid-based nanocarriers can significantly enhance the delivery of anti-inflammatory agents to the eye, paving the way for better treatments for patients suffering from inflammatory eye diseases.
