Key Points

  • The study aims to propose a re-conceptualization of time as an emergent coherence rather than a fundamental entity.
  • Explored the relationship between time, systems, and irreversibility under constraints.
  • Offered theoretical implications instead of formal models or physical theories.
  • Discussed observable phenomena in terms of restricted spatial possibilities and transformations.
  • Time is proposed as a construct for observers to organize change rather than a governing substance.
  • Structural irreversibility is presented as the reason behind apparent temporal directionality.
  • The framework questions the universality of local physical descriptions and suggests a broader unseen substrate.

Abstract

Abstract This document explores an alternative way of thinking about time, not as a fundamental entity of reality, but as a coherence that emerges from how systems transform and degrade under constraints. Rather than proposing a new physical theory or formal model, it offers a shift in perspective regarding the role of time, history, and irreversibility within contemporary scientific thought. From this viewpoint, all observable phenomena are treated as systems operating within restricted spaces of possibility, shaped by gradients, interactions, and irreversible transformations. Time is understood as a necessary construct for observers—who are themselves systems—to order, compare, and narrate change, but not as an ontological substance governing those changes. Apparent temporal directionality and accumulated records are interpreted as consequences of structural irreversibility rather than evidence of a fundamental temporal arrow. The framework also questions the extrapolation of locally valid physical descriptions—particularly those derived from baryonic matter—to universal ontological claims. It suggests instead that the observable universe may represent an exceptional configuration within a broader substrate whose dynamics are not fully accessible to direct observation. This work does not seek agreement, but consideration. It is offered as an open and falsifiable invitation to reconsider the epistemic foundations from which time is conceptualized in physics and cosmology, while fully acknowledging the validity and predictive power of existing models within their established domains.
