Key Points

  • This research investigates the geometries and dynamic processes of specific rhenium heptahydrides with NHC substituents.
  • Analysis of three types of rhenium heptahydride complexes (IMes, IMesCl $_{2}$, BIMes)
  • Identification of geometric configurations
  • Examination of fluxional mechanisms and activation processes
  • Three distinct complexes demonstrate varying fluxional behaviors
  • Introduction of the new 'η $_{2}$-quadratic twist' process
  • All complexes exhibit the ability to perform C–H activation

Abstract

Possible geometries and fluxional mechanisms of three ReH ₇ (NHC) ₂ complexes (NHC = IMes (1), IMesCl ₂ (2), and BIMes (3) ) are presented. A new process named “η ₂ -quadratic twist” has been identified. The complexes presented can perform C–H activation.
