Key Points

  • To introduce and validate a novel peer coordination protocol that relies on internal representational matching rather than external time sources.
  • Developed a protocol named Phenomenological Rendezvous (PR) that leverages neuro-linguistic programming principles.
  • Utilized commodity biosensors to measure internal representational patterns.
  • Encoded target configurations in a Semantic Rendezvous Token (SRT).
  • Demonstrated feasibility of coordination through matched subjective experiences.
  • Established properties of censorship resistance and privacy preservation in coordination processes.
  • Created a foundational framework for qualia-based distributed coordination.

Abstract

We present Phenomenological Rendezvous (PR), a novel peer coordination protocol that eliminates dependence on external time oracles by exploiting principles from Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and phenomenology. Unlike existing approaches that require peers to observe the same external state (NTP time, blockchain consensus, GPS signals), PR enables coordination when peers' internal representational patterns---measured via commodity biosensors---match a target configuration encoded in a Semantic Rendezvous Token (SRT). We demonstrate that coordination through matched subjective experience is feasible, censorship-resistant, and privacy-preserving. This work establishes the first formal framework for qualia-based distributed coordination and opens a new research direction at the intersection of cognitive science, cryptography, and distributed systems.
