Genetic code expansion (GCE) is a powerful tool with vast implications for basic research and the development of new therapeutics. By optimizing, developing, and broadly disseminating GCE technologies, GCE4All, the world’s first GCE center, makes the use of powerful tools and approaches standard; enabling scientific breakthroughs worldwide. The GCE4All center partners with researchers to identify, optimize, and disseminate GCE tools critical for advancing medical research. Discussed here are the optimized tools for encoding fluorescent probes, pi-cation probes, NMR probes, post-translational modifications, and efficient in-cell bioorthogonal reactions. These GCE systems have been optimized with national researchers to study protein structure, dynamics, cellular processing, and protein interactions to reveal new biology. GCE4All also supports the growth of the field by hosting training workshops, developing streamlined protocols, and promoting helpful conversations among newcomers and experts in discussion boards, webinars, and conferences.
