ABAlexandra Madalina BujorCHCosmin HarsanaACAdrian Caramatescu

Key Points

  • The aim is to explore the use and benefits of composite materials in kayak construction.
  • Analyzed various composite materials used in kayak hulls
  • Compared performance advantages of composites versus traditional materials
  • Reviewed manufacturing processes for composites in boating applications
  • Composite kayaks provide increased strength and durability compared to traditional materials
  • Resin-impregnated laminates improve overall kayak performance
  • Diverse materials like fiberglass and carbon fiber enhance design flexibility

Abstract

Composite materials are quite popular in kayak construction, especially for the hull of the boat, offering a number of advantages over traditional materials. Composite kayaks are made from resin-impregnated laminates of fiberglass, aramid fibers, carbon fiber, or a mixture of these and other high-tech synthetic fabrics.
