What if María Pita had not existed?

If the Galician heroine María Pita had not taken up arms in 1589 and acted like a true heroine in A Coruña (Spain), would she have colonized England, Spain and Portugal? England could have taken the Azores and captured the Indies fleet, Spain could have become a Protestant country, and other alternative histories could have developed. This paper attempts to highlight a historical event and examine hypotheses about the role of women during that period and subsequently, through the perspective of contemporary figures such as Elizabeth I of England, through a brief documentary review.
