The paper presents a review of research results on the influence of energy transfer by laser-accelerated fast electrons on the compression and burning efficiency of direct-drive inertial confinement fusion (ICF) targets. We consider targets of various designs and combustion initiation methods, including traditional low-entropy targets, shock ignition targets, and fast ignition targets. Various approaches to describing and simulating the energy transfer process by fast electrons are presented.
