The aim of this letter is to study the universal thermodynamics and criticality of charged AdS black holes with string cloud in the bulk and in the boundary conformal field theory. For this system, we determined the critical quantities and noticed that the free energy in the bulk exhibits swallow tail behavior. The divergence of the heat capacity at criticality reflects a second-order phase transition in the bulk black hole system, which is holographically dual to a critical phenomenon in the strongly coupled boundary conformal field theory involving its effective degrees of freedom. Furthermore, we tried to determine the nature of interactions between black hole molecules in the boundary CFT and in the bulk, which is novel for charged AdS black holes with string clouds.
