Magnetic induction intensity distribution of carbon fiber/epoxy resin plain woven laminates with different direct currents

Revealing the magnetic field distribution in carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites provides a novel approach for structural health monitoring (SHM). This study examines the influence of fiber orientation angles, input currents, and measurement techniques on the magnetic field distribution in plain weave (PW) carbon fiber/epoxy laminates. Both experimental measurements and numerical simulations were conducted to analyze the magnetic induction intensity of the PW laminates. The results show that the measured magnetic induction intensity on the sample surface is linearly proportional to the applied current. Moreover, the magnetic induction intensity nonlinearly decays as the measurement distance increases. The fiber orientation angles affect the current density distribution between the warp and weft yarns, following the coordinate transformation principles from the sample coordinate system to the fiber coordinate system.
