Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the way healthcare services and decision-making practices in different medical and psychological domains are carried out. In this article, a critical analysis of the existing literature is presented regarding the effect of AI on the roles and responsibilities of doctors, psychiatrists, and clinical psychologists. Clinical decision support systems and generative AI systems have shown promise in improving the efficiency of diagnosis and treatment planning systems. However, there is a mixed response from healthcare professionals about the implementation of AI systems in their work, as they experience concerns regarding the challenges of ethics, skill decay, lack of empathy in healthcare, and autonomy and trust between healthcare professionals and AI systems. Apart from this, studies have pointed out the dangers of reliance on AI suggestions in decision-making and treatment planning, which can affect the basic skills of healthcare professionals. Additionally, the applicability and usage of AI chatbots in the psychological field have become critical in determining whether they should function as an alternative to healthcare systems or an additional tool to support healthcare professionals. To implement AI in healthcare systems effectively, there is a need to address the pros and cons of AI and healthcare systems.
