Review and perfection of the definition of fear of crime from the perspective of innovation

This paper scrutinizes the definition and evolution of 'fear of crime,' aiming for a comprehensive understanding of its essence. Based on this understanding, a four-faceted definition of fear of crime is proposed, bringing clarity to its role as a powerful psychological component and its internal dynamic. Given the impact of the fear of crime on individual behavior and social realities, the study and control of this fear should garner increased attention from the research community as a potent tool influencing overall well-being. As a starting point for overcoming challenges faced within current research in China, there is a pressing need to harmonize and enhance the concept of fear of crime. Subsequently, understanding this enhanced concept becomes paramount, forming the main thesis of this paper, which culminates in the proposed 'four-stage' definition of fear of crime.
