The term LGBT encompasses individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, a community that continues to experience significant social stigma, prejudice, and marginalization, often resulting in discriminatory treatment and harassment. Though now a legal identity has been recognized and certain protection are granted to them through enactment of legislation, yet lot of targets to be achieved to reach at the destination of equality. This study explores the historical context and current framework surrounding LGBTQ+ rights in India, highlighting pivotal court decisions such as the 2018 decriminalization ofhomosexuality. It assesses the legal landscape governing LGBTQ+ rights, including laws protecting transgender individuals and judicial perspectives on same-sex marriage. The research also investigates the multifaceted challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community in India, analyzing data from various reports to understand societal attitudes towards transgender individuals. The primary goal of this paper is to critically evaluate the legal framework and propose recommendations to enhance the status of LGBTQ+ individuals, promoting equality and inclusivity in society.
