ABSTRACT This study presents a novel four‐parameter lifetime probability distribution tailored for reliability analysis. The proposed new four‐parameter distribution, termed the alpha power transformation exponentiated Chen distribution (APT‐ECD), is derived by employing the alpha power transformation to the exponentiated Chen distribution. The proposed APT‐ECD displays diverse shape properties and depicts a monotonically increasing hazard rate. Important statistical properties including reliability measures, moments and order statistics, are scrutinized. The maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) is executed for estimation of the proposed APT‐ECD parameters, supported by a comprehensive simulation study. The practicability of the proposed APT‐ ECD is illustrated though its application to three real‐lifetime data sets on two lifetime destiny data sets, screening its superior flexibility compared to predecessor models.
