Employment is a fundamental right and a vital pathway for individuals with disabilities to achieve societal contribution and economic independence. Despite the significance of employment, its rates among persons with disabilities remain low, particularly in Saudi Arabia, where only 14% of individuals with disabilities are employed compared with 84.6% of those without disabilities. This study aims to investigate the perceptions of employers regarding the hiring of individuals with disabilities in Saudi Arabia, identify prevalent concerns, and explore practical strategies to improve hiring and retention. An employer survey was conducted to assess (a) attitudes towards employing individuals with disabilities, (b) concerns related to their employment, and (c) strategies for promoting inclusive hiring practices. Fifty-two employers participated in the survey. The findings reveal that employers view the employment of individuals with disabilities as a social responsibility and a means to enhance awareness and organisational image. Practical strategies identified include providing vocational training and employee education, leveraging government assistance, and sourcing external support. Major concerns include the need for workplace modifications, additional training and supervision, perceived skill deficits, and organisational readiness. Additionally, employers express apprehensions regarding accommodation costs, safety, productivity, and legal liabilities.
