The factors Related to Urinary MEK Level among Workers in a Rubber Shoes Manufacturing Factory in Bangkok

Introduction: The workers used MEK for shoes assemble. They worked 8 hours or more per day which they could expose with MEK and most of them used unsuitable respiration protective equipment and personal hygiene. The objective was to assess factors and MEK exposure in urine among workers in a rubber shoe manufacturing factory in Bangkok. Method: This research was a cross –sectional study. We sampled 165 workers. The assessment tools were as follows: questionnaires, a personal “Organic Vapor Monitor (3M 3500)” and urine samples after the work shift. Results: The sample was female (86.7 %) and male (13.3 %). The mean age of the study group was 29.6 years. 34.5% of the study group worked 12 hours per day, everybody worked 6 days per week. 71.5% always used respiratory protection; however, most of them used paper filter masks (67.9%). Air samples were measured by personal “Organic Vapor Monitor (3M 3500)” attached to the lapel of the cases. Results of the study group showed However, the relationship between the highest education (p = 0.001) and hair wash (p = 0.026) and MEK in urine were significant at level 0.01 and 0.05, respectively. Discussion and Conclusion: The subjects of this study were workers; nevertheless, we should be aware of their exposure to MEK while working and there should be health promotion program. The author recommends that correct and suitable respiration protective equipment is used. บทคัดย่อ บทนำ: พนักงานผลิตรองเท้ามีการใช้สารเมทิลอาเซโตน (เอ็มอีเค) เป็นองค์ประกอบหลักในการประกอบรองเท้ายาง ต้องทำงานวันละ ๘ ชั่วโมงหรือมากกว่านั้นในหนึ่งวัน จึงมีโอกาสเสี่ยงต่อการสัมผัสสารเอ็มอีเค และส่วนใหญ่พนักงานมีการสวมใส่อุปกรณ์ป้องกันระบบทางเดินหายใจที่ไม่ถูกต้อง มีสุขวิทยาส่วนบุคคลที่ไม่ถูกต้อง ในการศึกษาครั้งนี้เพื่อศึกษาปัจจัยที่มีความสัมพันธ์กับปริมาณเอ็มอีเคในปัสสาวะของพนักงานในโรงงานผลิตรองเท้ายางแห่งหนึ่งในเขตกรุงเทพมหานครวิธีการศึกษา: เป็นการศึกษาแบบภาคตัดขวาง ตัวอย่างทั้งหมดมี ๑๖๕ คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้คือแบบสัมภาษณ์ทั่วไปและเก็บตัวอย่างอากาศใช้ Organic Vapor Monitor (3M 3500) ติดตัวบุคคลในระดับการหายใจและเก็บตัวอย่างปัสสาวะ (หลังสิ้นสุดการทำงาน)ผลการศึกษา: กลุ่มศึกษาเป็นพนักงานหญิง (ร้อยละ ๘๖.๗) และพนักงานชาย (ร้อยละ ๑๓.๓) มีอายุเฉลี่ย ๒๙.๖ ปี มีสภาพการทำงานในแต่ละวันในหน้าที่หลักวันละ ๑๒ ชั่วโมงต่อวัน ร้อยละ ๓๔.๕ และทุกคนทำงาน ๖ วันต่อสัปดาห์ มีการใช้อุปกรณ์ป้องกันระบบทางเดินหายใจทุกครั้ง ร้อยละ ๗๑.๕ โดยส่วนใหญ่มีการใช้แผ่นกรองอนุภาค ร้อยละ ๖๗.๙ และมี และเมื่อหาความสัมพันธ์พบว่า ระดับการศึกษาสูงสุด (p = ๐.๐๐๑) และการสระผม (p = ๐.๐๒๖) มีความสัมพันธ์กับปริมาณระดับความเข้มข้นของสารเอ็มอีเคในปัสสาวะของกลุ่มศึกษามีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ ๐.๐๑ และ ๐.๐๕ ตามลำดับวิจารณ์ และสรุปผลการศึกษา: กลุ่มศึกษามีการสัมผัสสารเอ็มอีเคในบรรยากาศการทำงานและในปัสสาวะในขณะทำงานและควรจัดให้มีโปรแกรมการส่งเสริมสุขภาพและการแนะนำให้ใช้อุปกรณ์ป้องกันระบบทางเดินหายใจที่ถูกต้องและเหมาะสมต่อไป
