On the surface, it seems that we are discussing a welldefined, clear category, almost self-evident due to its long history, which has been the subject of much writing and discussion. However, the way in which it is used and the events to which it refers actually complicate and articulate its meaning considerably, making it more of a constellation of different meanings and references, evocative and not necessarily convergent
