This paper analyzes Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler, focusing on Lauren Olamina’s leadership, the religious vision of Earthseed, and the communal practices it inspires. Lauren challenges patriarchal and hierarchical religious and political structures by proposing a new worldview grounded in Earthseed’s central belief that “God is Change.” Her leadership is characterized by participatory action rooted in care, empathy, and responsibility, serving as a driving force for solidarity and transformation within the community. This study highlights how Earthseed’s religious imagination extends beyond individual salvation to contribute to the reconstruction of community and the creation of alternative futures, illuminating Butler’s vision of feminist leadership and social ethics.
