Key Points

  • The study aims to explore the semantics of the construct chain in Biblical Hebrew through semantic classifications.
  • Analyzed the semantic classes of terms in construct chains
  • Derived clear semantic rules based on these classifications
  • Identified instances requiring additional encyclopaedic knowledge for accurate interpretation.
  • Clear rules for the semantics of the construct chain were established
  • Inadequacies were noted in cases requiring broader contextual knowledge
  • The need for framework understanding was highlighted for complete interpretation.

Abstract

Abstract The semantics of the Biblical Hebrew construct chain can be described by taking the semantic class of the terms involved as a basis. This enables clear rules to be derived. However, in many cases, this type of description is insufficient, and encyclopaedic knowledge of the relevant frames must be employed for interpretation.
