Abstract Dystopian literature provides a cultural map of the values and fears held by society. These texts offer an analysis of the flaws currently embedded in the culture that would enable oppression. Ironically, these texts also locate the areas of resistance and subversion. Feminist dystopian texts give primacy to issues concerning the struggle over bodily autonomy. In addition, Latin American female authors ponder the effects of late capitalism. Argentinean authors Luisa Valenzuela and Leticia Martin offer two contrasting points on the continuum of dystopian literature regarding the dangers of transgressing traditional sex and gender roles and authoritarianism.
