Key Points

  • This research investigates how manual acupuncture affects microglial polarization and related signaling pathways in post-stroke depression.
  • Utilized a rat model of post-stroke depression
  • Applied manual acupuncture to assess its impact on microglial transformation
  • Examined changes in the Sirt1/NF-κB signaling pathway
  • Manual acupuncture promoted M2 microglia polarization and reduced M1 microglial activation
  • Resulted in a significant reduction of the inflammatory response
  • Improved depression-like behavior in the tested rats

Abstract

MA promoted the transformation of microglia from M1 to M2 in the prefrontal lobe of PSD rats, reduces the inflammatory response and improves depression-like behavior in rats. These effects were associated with activation of the Sirt/NF-κB pathway.
