One significant impact of burnout is the premature cessation of an individual's professional career, a growing concern in the health sector. At the extreme, it results in high rates of suicide, with those in the veterinary sector standing at four times the level of the general public and twice those of other clinical professions. The impact is substantial, creating issues with individual and co-worker wellbeing, patient care and staff retention.
