Key Points

  • The research aims to explore how an HVDC system can help maintain frequency stability on a remote island.
  • Assess feasibility of frequency control scheme for HVDC systems
  • Implement load frequency control in HVDC links
  • Evaluate connections between renewable islands and the mainland
  • Demonstrated potential for maintaining frequency balance
  • Highlighted effectiveness of HVDC in renewable-rich environments
  • Showed improved power supply-demand stability

Abstract

This paper examines the feasibility of maintaining frequency and power supply–demand balance on an island by implementing a frequency control scheme for HVDC systems. The study assumes the implementation of load frequency control (LFC) in HVDC links connecting renewable-rich islands to the mainland.
