Abstract

A novel application of magnesium nitride (Mg3N2) for the synthesis of pyrroline-fused tetra-functionalized 60fullerene (C60) derivatives is reported under solvent-free ball-milling conditions. This approach represents the first mechanochemical method to regioselectively achieve tetra-functionalization of C60. Notably, the present protocol enables efficient incorporation of nitrogen from Mg3N2 directly into fullerene products.
