Key Points

  • This research aims to explore the social consequences of substituting steel or aluminum in automotive applications with wood-based materials, focusing on Austrian industries.
  • Utilized the WOODSIM model to connect social indicators with labor efforts and material flows.
  • Analyzed 11 social indicators, including labor accidents and gender equality.
  • Investigated two innovations for implications on labor and safety.
  • Steel poses higher risks for fatal workplace accidents compared to aluminum.
  • The impact of these risks varies between countries, suggesting contextual factors influence outcomes.
