India–Bangladesh relations occupy a significant place in the political, economic, and security architecture of South Asia. After the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, a strong foundation of friendly and cooperative relations was established between the two countries, which gradually transformed into a multidimensional partnership. In the contemporary period, these relations are not limited to diplomacy alone but have expanded into economic, strategic, energy, connectivity, and cultural domains. This study analyzes the opportunities, challenges, and future prospects of India–Bangladesh relations. Economic cooperation, trade growth, energy partnership, regional connectivity, and security collaboration are identified as major opportunities. At the same time, water-sharing disputes, border management issues, illegal migration, trade imbalance, and changing geopolitical dynamics have emerged as significant challenges. The study concludes that the relationship between the two countries is essential for stability and development in South Asia. In the future, stronger economic partnerships, energy cooperation, and continued diplomatic dialogue are likely to further strengthen bilateral relations. Overall, India–Bangladesh relations will continue to play a central role in maintaining regional peace, development, and strategic balance.
