Abstract

ABSTRACT Ultraviolet (UV) light active bismuth‐based compounds SrBiO 2 Cl and BaBiO 2 Cl were prepared by a solid‐state reaction route, and it was characterized by various techniques such as high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy, field‐emission scanning electron microscopy, powder X‐ray diffraction, and UV–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Photocatalytic activity was evaluated by photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under the irradiation of UV light. The SrBiO 2 Cl and BaBiO 2 Cl photocatalysts degraded 99% and 91% of (RhB, 10 mg/L), with degradation rates 0.0269 and 0.0157 min −1 , respectively. The radical trapping experiments confirmed that the superoxide radical anion plays a major role in the degradation of Rhodamine B.
