Abstract

Presented at the OCSEAN Conference in Bali 2025, this poster examines the development and educational impact of a medicinal plants–based e-dictionary integrated into plant diversity learning for Grade XII students at Mehara. The study addresses the need for innovative digital learning media that connect biological concepts with locally relevant biodiversity resources. The e-dictionary was designed to provide systematic information on medicinal plants, including taxonomy, morphological characteristics, ecological distribution, and ethnobotanical uses, presented through an interactive digital format. Methodologically, the study applied a learning media development and classroom implementation approach to evaluate its influence on students’ learning motivation. Findings indicate that the integration of a contextual digital resource significantly enhances students’ engagement, curiosity, and intrinsic motivation in studying plant diversity. The visual, searchable, and locally contextualized features of the e-dictionary facilitate meaningful learning and improve accessibility to scientific information. Overall, the study highlights the potential of digital ethnobotanical resources to strengthen science literacy, promote biodiversity awareness, and support student-centered biology learning.
