Abstract

The aim of the study was to demonstrate how CHROMagar™ Candida enables same-day presumptive identification of Candida glabrata in corneal scrapings from fungal keratitis and to discuss species-specific therapeutic considerations. A 69-year-old female with postsurgical microbial keratitis underwent corneal scraping. The samples were inoculated on CHROMagar™ Candida . Colony color at 24 h predicted C. glabrata , later confirmed by Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Time of Flight (MALDI-TOF). Antifungal therapy was tailored accordingly. At 24 h, small pale pink colonies suggested C. glabrata . Empirical natamycin was switched to topical amphotericin B and voriconazole, leading to clinical resolution by week 5. CHROMagar™ Candida provides a rapid, low-cost presumptive ID of C. glabrata in keratitis, guiding early targeted therapy in resource-limited settings.
