Late diagnosis of Pulmonary Agenesis in a pediatric patient. A case reportAgenesis of the lung is a rare congenital malformation of pulmonary development, characterized by the total or partial absence of one or both lungs, originating in the earliest stages of embryogenesis, which entails severe morphological and functional changes.The symptoms can range from respiratory distress or evidence of recurrent lung infections to being asymptomatic.Although diagnosis is mostly made in early childhood, some cases may go unnoticed and remain undiagnosed until later stages such as adulthood.Hence the importance of case reports such as the one presented below.This is a 16-yearold male patient with a history of hospitalization at birth for 6 months without definitive diagnoses; later he presented dyspnea of great exertion until reaching to dyspnea of small exertion, intermittent dry cough, audible wheezing at a distance over years of evolution, and he was managed as an asthmatic patient without improvement.The case was revisited and findings compatible with left pulmonary agenesis were identified in a chest tomography study.
