Small and medium-sized fitness studios often rely heavily on the experience of individual coaches for daily operations, which can lead to inconsistent service quality and difficulties in managing operational risks. Although professional organizations such as the NSCA provide guidelines for safety and risk management, many small facilities lack a practical management framework that translates these principles into everyday operational processes. This article introduces the Mini Quality System (MQS), a simplified quality management framework designed specifically for small fitness studios and coaching facilities. The framework integrates key safety and risk management practices commonly recommended in the fitness industry, including preparticipation health screening (e.g., PAR-Q+), environmental and equipment maintenance, and basic operational oversight. The goal of MQS is to provide a practical and scalable approach that helps small facilities improve service consistency, reduce operational risks, and move from experience-based management toward a more systematic process-oriented approach. This article was originally published in NSCA Personal Training Quarterly, Volume 13, Issue 1. Keywords: fitness management; quality management; risk management; fitness studio; MQS; NSCA.
